Cervical cancer is a deceptively prevalent malignancy among women between the ages of 30 and 45. However, in India, the symptoms appear beyond the age of 50. Most cervical cancers are caused by the HPV (Human Papillomavirus). Cervical cancer is cancer that affects the uterine mouth or the cervix. The bottom section of the uterus that attaches to the vagina is known as the cervix. Due to a lack of knowledge, cervical cancer is a serious health problem in India and Africa. A taboo exists since the majority of women are hesitant to discuss cervical cancer or associated issues. Our expert Dr. Manash Chakraborty, Gynae Oncologist, Manipal Hospital Salt Lake, Kolkata has suggested ways to prevent cervical cancer that might save you from this disease.

Ways To Prevent Cervical Cancer

Check out the ways to prevent cervical cancer:

Raising Awareness

In India, women are hesitant to talk about cervical issues. Thus, the first step to prevent this disease is to raise awareness through initiatives encouraging women to understand and discuss their health. There is no cure other than raising awareness, and various groups, including WHO, have been running campaigns and programmes to raise awareness about this silent disease.

Regular PAP Test

The Papanicolaou test or PAP Smear test is the most vital test to detect cervical (female vs male condom) pre-cancer. It is a low-cost and painless screening. The test detects potentially precancerous and cancerous processes in the cervix. It enables us to proceed with further diagnosis and treatment.

Cervical Cancer Vaccine

Cervical cancer vaccine is a part of routine vaccinations in many countries. The vaccine is effective when administered at as early age as possible. However, women of any age can get injected to prevent this disease. The vaccine though proves to be more effective to women (what causes fatigue in women) before they become sexually active. Even if a woman receives the vaccination, a routine PAP Smear test is still suggested. Because some cervical cancers are not caused by HPV, and this fraction offers a risk.
