Gupteswar Forest, situated in the wildernesses of Odisha’s Koraput district, has been declared the fourth Biodiversity Heritage Site (BHS) of the state by the Odisha Government. The forest lies right beside the Gupteswar Shiva Temple which falls in the Dhondrakhol reserve forest. The forests are spread over an area of 350 hectares with a variety of flora and fauna.

Odisha Biodiversity Board carried out a survey of Gupteswar Forest where they found out that there are 28 species of mammals, 188 species of birds, 18 species of amphibians, 48 species of reptiles, 45 species of fishes, 30 species of spiders, 43 species of moths, 141 species of butterflies, 41 species of odonates, 20 species of lower invertebrates, and 6 species of scorpions found in the forest.

Gupteswar Forest is a hidden gem in the Koraput district of Odisha. This offbeat destination is not easily accessible through public transport, hence it is important to commute through a private car. You can book a car from either Jeypore town or Koraput city which are 80 km and 200 km away from this place, respectively.

Best Time To Visit Gupteswar Forest

Even though Gupteswar Forest looks radiant all year long, the best time to visit this place is between October to May, which is known as the dry season. This is the time when it does not rain and hence you can enjoy the scenic views without any stress.
