A friend of mine recently shared that a guy rejected her friend for marriage citing she had PCOS, therefore, she was infertile. Many people like him have this misconception and do not know that Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is a lifestyle disorder that can be managed. It does not make someone infertile.

A lot of women with PCOS often worry if they could delay their pregnancy or conceive after 30. We spoke to Dr Aswati Nair, fertility specialist, Nova IVF, Rajouri Garden, New Delhi.

She said that PCOS is a hormonal disorder that affects a lot of women globally. She added, “It is a complex condition that can manifest a broad spectrum of symptoms, but its most distinguishing feature is the presence of small cysts on the ovaries. It's important to emphasise that not all women with PCOS will have these cysts, and the severity of symptoms can indeed vary significantly from person to person.”

Dr Nair said that many people have this misconception that a woman’s biological clock expires at 30. However, it is a myth. Every person’s fertility timeline is unique. Some women can have better chances of conception than other women at the same age.

The doctor added, “From a biological perspective, the quality and quantity of a woman's eggs typically decrease more significantly after the age of 35. We are born with a finite number of eggs, and this number naturally diminishes as we grow older.”

When combined with PCOS, the expert said that women can experience pregnancy-related risks. However, there is no doubt that one cannot witness a healthy pregnancy.

Monitoring your menstrual cycle can be a good way to increase your chances of conception. It can help you predict ovulation better. The doctor also said that after consultation, they can even prescribe a few medicines to manage PCOS and increase fertility rates.

Monitor Ovulation To Increase The Rate Of Conception

If you keep track of ovulation, it can help you increase your rate of conception. She suggested using a mobile application, monitoring cervical mucus, and tracking your body temperature can help you get a deeper understanding of your health and reproductive system.
