Revolving around the story of four people living in the city of Banaras, ‘Masaan’ stars Vicky Kaushal and Richa Chadha. Unlike mainstream Bollywood movies, this movie revolves around the ordinary lives of these people and their struggles while living in a city where people are not very accepting. They struggle through the general caste and gender issues while trying their best to exist and make way for a better life ahead. 

Bulbbul (2020)

The Triptii Dimri starrer and Anushka Sharma production, ‘Bulbbul’ is a folklore that is set in the late eighteen hundreds of British India. This Netflix original movie is about a child bride named Bulbbul who is married to a man decades older than him but is wealthy to the core. After a potential love affair blooming with her brother-in-law who is as young as her, she falls victim to abuse by her husband and his twin. This breaks her soul but gives her endurance as well.

Tamasha (2015)

Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone were cast together in the Imtiaz Ali movie ‘Tamasha’. This is the story of an ordinary person, Ved, who meets Tara in Corsica where they pretend to be made-up versions of themselves. After returning to India, their paths cross many years later when they start dating but something feels off, and hence starts the journey of Ved’s self-discovery. 

Udaan (2010)

After being expelled from his boarding school in Shimla, Rohan who was left alone in the school returns to his home in Jamshedpur. He has to stay with his strict father and half-brother, study engineering against his choice, and work in his father’s factory. Watch how he fights his demons and flies high.
